Video Review of Sadie's Diner


Hello everyone again ^^

I would like to summarize the video review of Sadie's Diner.

First, I would like to introduce the restaurant review of Sadie's Diner, which is in Toronto, Canada. The two people are vegan, and they ordered many dishes. The beverages they ordered were lemonade, peanut butter chocolate banana milkshake, coney chili fries, quesadillas, and a gluten-free buckwheat blueberry pancake. The woman said that there were too much cheese inside the quesadillas, but overall, they said that everything was very tasty.

Everything was vegan, and very filling. The service of the waiters was fantastic, and nice. The only disappointing thing they found in this restaurant was the smell of the whole room. However, the waiters put candles on the tables so that the smell would go away. This restaurant has a lot of choices, so the two said that they would definitely come again.

The question of my video assignment was: What is your favorite breakfast?

My favorite breakfast is a dish of various fruits, rice, mozuku, yogurt, and miso soup. Before, I liked to eat meat from the morning, but nowadays, I feel like eating healthy and eating light things, so this is my favorite breakfast. The fad inside me is to eat mozuku or seaweed, because you can take a lot of minerals. I like to eat fruits because they are juicy and very refreshing, and I think it is good to eat fruits in the mornings. I started doing something I have never done before I eat breakfast, which is called oil pulling. I chose coconut oil for doing this. After waking up, you put about a tablespoon of coconut oil into your mouth. You swish it inside your mouth for about 20 minutes, like a mouthwash. By doing oil pulling, it results in better breath, less toxins inside your mouth, less headaches, and whiter teeth. After swishing for 20 minutes, you must spit it out into a garbage can, for it might clog the drains. Then, you swish your mouth with salt water, and that is it! Another merit for doing this is that you can do whatever you want while oil pulling. I recommend you do this too!! I started this week, and I hope I could keep the pace. After oil pulling, I eat breakfast. I think eating a healthy breakfast is a great way to start your day.


Happy New Year everyone! I it's already 2015, and I would like to evaluate the Thai restaurant I went with Tomoki, in December. I knew from before that there were many tasty and famous restaurants in Aoyama, and I was interested in them, but I didn't really have the chance to go to them. Since the assignment was to go to a restaurant, this was a good chance for me to visit and search for good restaurants in Aoyama. The reason we chose this restaurant is because we usually don't go to ethnic restaurants, and I searched on the internet for good ranked restaurants. There were a few that came to my attention, but I discussed with Tomoki, and since we do not have any likes and dislikes, we decided to go to the Thai restaurant in Aoyama, called "TINUN". The location of this restaurant is near Aoyama Gakuin, and a five minute walk would take you to TINUN.

 The lunch menu are gapao rice, chow fun, Thai noodles of various kinds, such as tom yam kun noodles (shrimp and beef), and pat thai noodles, which are called beefun in Japan. It is very reasonable, because it comes with four different types of side dishes, which are buffet style. Plus, it is 950 yen per person, which is nice for your wallet. On this day, we had pumpkin red curry, fried pig liver and garlic, spicy herb salad, and vegetable soup. I ordered shrimp tom yam kun, which is a spicy and sour noodle, which is commonly eaten in Thai. And since I ordered a noodle dish, I had a small bowl of rice to go with my noodle. I liked the Tom yam kun, since I like spicy dishes. There wasn't as much noodles in my soup as I thought, but since there was the buffet, I think it was a good amount. Before the noodles came, we served ourselves some curry, salad, soup, and the fried liver. To start with the salad, it had a herb that is commonly eaten in the south-eastern part of Asia, called coriander, or pakchi in Japanese. I hear that many people have a dislike to coriander, because of its strong flavor and smell. Besides the coriander, there was also chicken breast, red onion, green onion, cucumber, and red pepper. I think the dressing was lemon based with some other citrus fruits, and spiced with black and white pepper. It was very tasty, and I have never eaten such a combination before, so it was very interesting to me. The next thing I ate was the pumpkin red curry. It wasn't as heavy as it looked, but it was very spicy. But the spiciness didn't carry on for a long time, which was surprising. I didn't taste much of the pumpkin, and I did not realize it until I saw the menu outside of the restaurant. I only noticed the sliced bamboo shoots (takenoko), bay leaf, and the leaves of pepper inside the red curry. Even though it was spicy, it was very addicting and I went for two servings for the curry. The vegetable soup was made from carrot, egg, cabbage, radish, and chicken minced meat. The last, fried liver and garlic was very tasty. The base of the sauce was fish sauce, and the ingredients were liver, garlic sprouts, onion, carrot, and paprika.

The main menu of my lunch was the tom yam noodle. It looked very spicy because of the nam pla, a kind of spicy liquid that is used in ethnic foods. I loved the spicy and sour taste, and there was a lemon to go with it, and it matched very well.

 
  The environment of the restaurant was very nice, with some music playing in the background, many costumers eating inside. It seemed like most of the people who were eating came during their lunch break, working near Aoyama. Some people were eating by themselves, and that didn’t bother me because of the warm atmosphere. The cooks could be seen by the costumers, and they looked like they were from Thailand.

The overall evaluation of this restaurant was not bad at all, and I thought that I would like to take my friends here someday, because of its tastiness and reasonable price. It was not a vegan restaurant, and I could see that TINUN used a lot of meat and seafood.
 I only introduced the lunch menu for this evaluation assginment, but in the outside of the restaurant, there was a menu for dinner, which had more menus, such as spring rolls, salads, and beverages.

Review of Blog
*Quality
The quality of the blog was high in my opinion. The layouts of the blog was easy to read, and colorful, so I thought that it was kind for the viewers of the blog. The links were well organized, so I liked the layouts and the quality of the blog.

*Usefulness
As I said before, the links were well organized, so I think it is useful for both the writer and the viewers of the blog. If the writer was talking about an entry in the past, she would put the link to go to that page, so I think that was nice for the viewers.

*Visual Attractiveness
It was colorful, and well organized. I like her sense of color choosing.

*Accessibility of Language
It was only written in English, since she is an American. I don't think she knows another language, and she only writes it for people in the western area, so I did not think the language is not accessible to every culture and every person in the world.

*How interesting was it to you personally?
It talked about her children and their growth, besides the recipes she introduced int he blogs, so I thought that it was very interesting for me personally. Since the recipes are all seasonal things and healthy, I thought that it would be a good example for my cooking in my own life. I would like to actually cook the recipes she put on the entries of her blog.

Introducing myself and my book

     Hi! My name is Ayaka. I hope you will enjoy my postings. First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ayaka, and I am 19 years old. I am from Nagano prefecture, and I came to Tokyo this spring. I love to cook, though I am not confident of it. I was interested in this seminar because I am very interested in food, and I love to eat. I would like to learn many things about food in attenfing this seminar. I would also like to make friends with the people in the seminar. Thank you!

     Next, I would like to introduce the book that I am reading. My book is called 'Food in early Modern Europe'. The reason I chose this book is because I wanted to learn the cultures and history of  Europe. So far, I have only read 13 pages of the book, and it is about population changes of Europe from the 1300s and talks about the agriculture. It is very interesting, and I would like to read through the book as much as possible.
